Expressionism

Posted by JMartin97 - May 2nd, 2008

I edited this together for a class. Reboot 10 was inspired by a lot of the films I saw in my expressionism in film class. In fact, all of Reboot 10 is really inspired by silent films, horror films, and noir films...

obviously I did that! It just kept saying it wasn't the right kind of video... but I figured it out.

I really love your series, but do you think it really meshes well with older forms of film? I can see how the silent film aspects made it in, but the noir characteristics seem to be too much of a juxtaposition with the newish theme of the series. Don't get me wrong, it drips expression, I just felt a bit disappointed when it shifted more from silent film style to a more noir take. The addition of character voices and the sharpening and detailing of the sprites seemed to stray from what I liked so much about it. But hey, thats just my opinion. Your work is still gold! ^_^

P.S.
Is the progressively refined detailing of the characters a result of the system becoming unstable, or simply a stylistic choice on your part? I couldn't tell if the effect was diagetic or not.

I can see metropolis and the cabnet of dr. calgiri(or however you spell it, youtube crapped out in me after I veiwed it), but the night of the hunter?(again, can't remember exact title...) I can't honestly see it, besides slashing with sharp objects I mean...

who was the guy with the shaded eyes in dr. calgiri? I can see how he relates to judgement day guy (does he even have a name?) and what was the song with him getting out of the elevator, I can't pick it out of your credits...
