Reboot / Little Big Apocalypse 2

Posted by JMartin97 - May 27th, 2011

I released my Sci-fi/Horror/Videogame Mash-up LIttle Big Apocalypse 2 on May 21st, the supposed end of days, got in the top 5, which is good news. The world didn't end and my flash didn't do as well as I'd hoped, so I guess things balanced themself out. I want future episodes to perform better, so I need to take all the kind criticism of my fellow newgrounds users O_O.

For people wondering when the next Reboot will be released, I'm not too sure, the next episode will be technically insane to do. I'm not sure if I'm capable as an animator to pull it off, it's a little scary imagining it. It took a lot of my brainpower just getting the 3D-shots in Little Big Apocalypse 2 to look correct. The last spinning shot of Sackboy in the, now damaged, elevator is so complicated because Sackboy is spinning one way slowly as the elevator is spinning the other way slowly, not only that, the camera is also pulling in.

I'm hard at work on the next episode of LBA because I want to get these things out fast and develop some sort of fanbase... I feel the best way to do that is make them the best I can the fastest I can... so I'm looking to finish this next episode in a month. The screenshot below is from the new episode.

Although your stuff may not be the most popular around, you have definitely already gotten a fanbase so to speak. It may not be big, but it's a start at least. Sadly I have no tips for getting more people to follow your stuff, since people seem so picky about what they like to watch on newgrounds these days... other than maybe shorter episodes. 18 minutes~ etc can be a turn off for some people to get started on it, so shorter more frequent updates could be a good start. But I could understand that being hard with the storytelling that you do though.

Anyway, good luck with the coming episodes. I hope that they do as good as you want them to.

you've been following for a while and it's people like you and comments like this that keep me going, thanks man :)

Very very impressive. LBA2 was wonderfully composed. A bit slow to start (mainly the air between dialogue), but intriguing and wonderfully stylistic.

Funny, I read that comment about Portal 2 ... I just did two voices from Portal 2 for a commercial project:

GladOS - <a href="http://hearmick.com/client/soap/seekplay/seekplay-complete-v3.mp3">http://hearmick.com/client/soap/seekp lay/seekplay-complete-v3.mp3</a>
The initial voice - <a href="http://www.ricepirate.com/ng/audio/aethosgames/aethos-political-ricerpirate.mp3">http://www.ricepirate.com/ng/audio/ae thosgames/aethos-political-ricerpirat e.mp3</a>

Thanks alot, means something from a talented guy like you, nice voice work too.

pffft, there's plenty of talent on Newgrounds, including yours :)

Hit me up if you need audio sometime.

Awesome, will do :)

Having just watched LBA2, I'd be glad to give you some feedback.

First off, I enjoyed it, overall it was well done, and I'm glad you're beginning to get some reliable voice actors to help you out.

Your strengths would be your visuals, how they pack in story and the uniqueness of them. That and your ability to pick fantastic music to illustrate what's happening or to set the mood.

Your weakness is not storytelling, as I'm always intrigued by your stories, but instead how the dialogue tells that story. In short, dialogue is one of your main issues. The dialogue seems abrupt at points such as when it was said "They died". You could sense the voice actor didn't know exactly what to do with that line, it was overly blunt. I've acquired an English degree, and write stories as a hobby, I'd be willing to proofread some scripts if you need help.

Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses, it's why movies aren't made by a single person generally. My advice would be to find a scriptwriter whose work fits your style.

Appreciate your advice.. I'll keep that in mind, thanks for keeping up with everything.

I really love LBA it's one of my favorite. don't give up =D you'll make it perfectly as always ;)

thank you very much :D

hey, I just deleted someone's comment by mistake -_- please repost if you can! sorry!

I've followed your stuff ever since the very first Reboot, and I might have a useful suggestion. Go back and watch the early Reboot episodes you did. Then watch the stuff that you are doing now. The early episodes for me had a certain simplicity that made them profound, yet still cohesive. The new episodes , while still visually appealing, seem much more unfocused. Its almost as if the original concept was lost somewhere along the way. Your new stuff isn't bad, but it definitely has lost something that the old episodes had. Don't take this as a rag on your new stuff, as it is still quite nice in terms of the visuals. I just don't feel the brevity and completeness the story had at the beginning.
